If you are planning to design your own hoodie then there are a few important factors that you must keep in mind, to make sure that you do not end up getting confused or lost in the process of sewing and designing it. Here are some key aspects to follow-

1. Proportionate sizing- the parts of the hoodie- starting from the sleeves, to the cap must be exactly in the right proportion so that it fits you right. A good idea would be first make a dummy hoodie or get/make a stencil to get a clear picture of what goes where and what should be your exact proportions.

2. Keep it simple- if you are designing a hoodie for the first time then the best thing to do is to keep it simple. Use fabrics that are easy to stitch and opt for designs that do not require any internal lining, too many pockets, etc. Fabrics like denim, cotton, Lycra are some of the best options for you if you do not have much experience in stitching or do not have too much time to design a hoodie.

3. Stitch part by part- when you have to create your own hoodie the best thing to do is not to rush into things and instead approach the hoodie one part at a time. Sew the cap, the sleeves, the back, the front, the pockets, etc separately and then attach them to each other for the final output. This will make your work more systematic and will also generate better results.

4. Leave scope for amendments- while stitching up the hoodie, make sure to leave a few extra inches on the other side of the hemline so that in case you need to resize any of the parts when you design your own hoodie, you can do so easily by adjusting the extra cloth.
