Man of Letters KC Wilder – The Fabric of Humorous Poetry in the “Wilder Blue Yonder” by Richard Davison
Wilder once claimed himself a writer trapped inside a person’s body. He is also the originator of fauxbrow, a tasteful American art and attitude that mashes up lowbrow and fauvism with a quirky ethereal wonder.
KC Wilder‘s writing is often unnerved and unnerving, hinging on a loss of centrality itself, as witnessed in this bit from “#45: dog-faced artboy”: chewing himself out, in a tailspin everyday … doting on a well-worn bag of bones inside a doghouse! sitting up on slipshod grates contemplating dog-eared rage, the many treats he’s been denied …
KC Wilder‘s art furthers a pop-culture informed argot. Stylistically, his craft can be approximately categorized as Jackson Pollock meets ee cummings, with strokes of
Pablo Neruda, W.S. Merwin, and John Berryman.
KC Wilder‘s talents and ventures in (and out of) cultural pursuits of all kinds cover a wide area – poet, artist, guitarist, web technician, videographer, free speech activist, photographer, naturalist, and a prior U.S. AAU-national champion athlete. He has appeared before stadium-sized crowds with a 40-piece classical ensemble as a baritone soloist, and has traveled widely throughout the U.S. as a singer , guitarist and perfomer. In the 90s he was well known in the zine and mail art worlds for editing and publishing a unique music zine as well as many literary mags, including several indy award-winners.
Light, fanciful and ethereal, but also somehow cutting and indisputable. Wilder’s art rock cruises the continents and carries the hearer with it. Some have caught The Door’s singer J. Morrison in KC Wilder’s vocalizations. If you could liquify the character of Ansel Adams and stir it in a chaser with early Bob Dylan, you might get the same overall flavor. A healthy bit of Ken Nordine and probably Fred Fellini.
Wilder has recordedan indy disc of humorous poetry on bewilderama music. A trained musician as well as poet, Wilder plays guitar on some of these tracks in addition to performing humorous poetry in collaboration with the amazing Acme Rocket Quartet.
